Independent Project in the Community (Q9124)
60 credits, Level 6
Autumn and spring teaching
On this module, you’ll synthesise the skills and knowledge gained from your academic and practice-based training to develop and execute a project of your choosing. You’ll often (but not always) work with degree partners to develop a project with a positive impact on the community. These challenging pieces of work, which can take the form of anything from an exhibition, to a community programme, to a documentary, are supervised by colleagues and sometimes external partners.
The teaching programme for the project includes the appropriate scaffolding and safeguarding for this kind of work beyond the institution, as well as:
- proposal development
- ethical review
- self-reflection
- case-study research
- project management
- employability workshops.
The complexity of the project draws on many of the skills you’ve gained to produce independent and original projects of many kinds.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
