Spring and summer teaching
On this module, you’ll design and carry out a research project on a topic of your choice. This will be an independent project assisted by one-to-one supervision.
Through this, you’ll deepen your critical knowledge and understanding of modern political challenges. You’ll also develop research skills, and apply theory and practical principles of research methodology.
You’ll attend dedicated workshops for a general introduction into how to research and write a dissertation.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 600 hours of work. This breaks down into about 10 hours of contact time and about 590 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
