Hate crimes are a particular concern to the coherence of Britain’s multicultural society. These crimes not only threaten the personal safety and security for those directly victimised, these crimes are also likely to indirectly impact on other individuals in the victim’s identity group by increasing feelings of fear, anger, and isolation throughout the group.
The Βι¶ΉΣ³» Hate Crime Project, funded by the , examined these indirect effects of hate crimes. During the five year project (2013-2018), we worked with individuals and organisations from two commonly targeted groups, Muslim people and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) people, in an attempt to understand how indirect experiences of hate crimes impact on individuals, communities, and society in general.
