Upcoming elections
The Governance Team will be running elections this year as follows:
Senate Elections
- X2 vacancies to represent the Faculty of Social Sciences.
- X3 vacancies to represent the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Medicine.
- X1 vacancy to represent the Faculty of Media, Arts & Humanities.
- X1 vacancy to represent the Âé¶¹Ó³» Business School.
- X1 vacancy to represent Professional Services.
Council Elections
- X1 vacancy to represent Postgraduate Researchers (PGR)
- X2 vacancies to represent Senate Elected Representatives*
*NB. This election will be managed by a sperate process in June once Faculty representatives have been elected to Senate.

Election procedure
The first step is the nomination of candidates and nominations forms can be found within the table below for each of the elections. Nominators should check that their nominee is willing and eligible to serve. Self-nomination is permissible.
Timeline
Nominations open: Monday 13th April 2026.
Deadline for nominations: Completed nominations forms must be returned to lg476@sussex.ac.uk by Midday on Friday 24th April 2026.
Election emails: All staff eligible to vote will receive an email in the week commencing 11th May 2026, providing details of nominees and instruction on how to vote electronically.
Voting: Will take place between 11th May and 29th May 2026, with results due w/c 1st June 2026.
We work with the Electoral Reform Society (Civica) to manage voting externally and confidentially.

- How are elections managed at the Âé¶¹Ó³» ?

The University Secretary and Governance& Compliance team co-ordinate all activity required for elections to both Council and Senate at the Âé¶¹Ó³». Voting is managed independently by CIVICA Electoral services.
- Please can you explain the Single Transferable Vote system (STV).
