Children are often left out of the discussion around climate change and sustainability.
But a joint workshop between the Βι¶ΉΣ³» Sustainability Research Programme (SSRP) and Centre for Innovation and Research in Childhood and Youth (CIRCY) - with the support of the Widening Participation team - seeks to understand the sustainability issues that matter to younger people.
The event, titled 'Climate Change and the Environment: Exploring through Childhood, Youth and Education, Arts and Gaming', brings together local young people (including schoolchildren) and Βι¶ΉΣ³» researchers, fostering collaboration on complex sustainability problems.
Four SSRP researchers will give short presentations:
Dr Emanuela Orlando: Eco-anxiety and the relationship between climate change and human and children rights
Dr Chi Eziefula: Citizen science for sustainable menstrual health
Kathleen Bailey: Nurturing nature with(in) children - nature in education
Dr Jo Walton: Sustainable futures and not-so-serious play
The workshop takes place on Wednesday 22 February from 11.30am to 12.30am, with the room TBD. All sussex staff and students are very welcome - please register .
