Βι¶ΉΣ³» Drug Discovery Centre welcomes Professor Roger Corder

The Βι¶ΉΣ³» Drug Discovery Centre (SDDC), has welcomed Professor Roger Corder who joins the centre as Visiting Scientist and is collaborating on a research project into identifying new drug targets for the treatment of endothelial dysfunction
Professor Corder brings a wealth of experience from a career researching the causes of common cardiovascular diseases. This includes more than 30 years focused on endothelial function at the William Harvey Research Institute (Queen Mary University of London). Roger was awarded his PhD in 1986 (University of London), and spent 5 years as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Geneva. In 1991 he was recruited by the Nobel Laureate Professor Sir John Vane to lead endothelin research at the WHRI, where he was subsequently appointed Professor of Experimental Therapeutics in 2000 (now Emeritus).
Professor Corder is also internationally recognised for his research on the health benefits of red wine and dark chocolate, which he popularised through his best-selling book The Wine Diet (published in the UK in 2006 and subsequently in more than 20 countries worldwide).
Professor Corder said: “I’m really looking forward to working with Professor John Spencer and the team of scientists at SDDC. We aim to combine the drug discovery expertise of the SDDC with my insights on endothelial biology to rise to the challenge of identifying new drug targets for the treatment of endothelial dysfunction. This represents a huge unmet therapeutic need of critical importance in cardiovascular aging processes.”
Professor Spencer, Director of SDDC (Pictured left with Prof Corder) stated: “Having someone of Roger Corder’s standing collaborating with our centre shows how we are working on world-leading impactful science. We are very excited and delighted to start this new, exciting adventure that will lead to advances in potential new treatments.”
