Biography
I studied Hausa for my BA degree at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, graduating in 1990. I received my MA in Linguistics (SOAS) in 1992, and my PhD in Linguistics (SOAS) in 1997. I taught in the Linguistics Department at Queen Mary, University of London from 1997-8, and took up a post in Linguistics and English Language at Βι¶ΉΣ³» in 1998. I was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2008, and to Reader in 2017. I was also very proud to win Βι¶ΉΣ³» Teaching Awards in 2012 and in 2018, and to be shortlisted for the THE Awards 2019 in the category 'Outstanding Research Supervisor of the Year'. I retired from the University in 2025, but remain affiliated as Emerita Associate Professor.
