Conservation Ecology Field Course

Module C7148

Module details for 2014/15.

15 credits

FHEQ Level 5

Module Outline

Experience of environments and habitats in the field is essential for an understanding of the conservation issues that can face them. This module will involve a field course to Slapton Ley in March/April. The site is an SSSI within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which provides access to a variety of ecologically vulnerable habitats that makes it ideal for learning about conservation biology. Students will develop an understanding of, and ability to identify, the main conservation issues for a range of habitats

Module learning outcomes

Collect field data and interpret them for habitat classification, site assessment and conservation management

Identify the main flora, vegetation types and conservation issues for a range of habitats

Understand the organisation, administration and management of different statutory and other land designations

Appraise and reconcile the competing pressures on natural habitats from nature conservation, recreation and agriculture.
